Children with New Adult Teeth (5-10)
3 Things to know:
1. Protect new teeth because they are soft and easily damaged!
Once there is a cavity in an adult tooth – it may need
replacement every five to ten years, for the rest of the tooth’s
life. Teach your child how to rinse and spit and begin using a
dilute fluoride rinse.
2. The infection that causes a cavity on one tooth will usually damage a similar tooth on the opposite side, and above or below them.
If a 10 year old has four new cavities (assuming they need
replacement every 10 years and he lives to be 80 years old) this
will total 32 fillings (in just four molars). The other molars
will likely also need fillings (and adults have 3 molars on each
side of the mouth). This could mean 96 fillings in his lifetime.
3. Sealants may not be the best way to protect new teeth.
Balancing mouth bacteria may give more prolonged and more
natural protection for new teeth, without the dangers from

your kids teeth after every meal or snack with Zellies 100
percent xylitol mints, gum or candies.
- Kids usually have plenty of healthy
alkaline saliva, so make sure they don’t waste this natural
protection. Keep snacks and sipping drinks to a minimum, and
preferably avoid acidic drinks like soda and juices.
- A rice-grain amount of Crest Cavity
Protection toothpaste may be used to clean teeth. Teach your

- Cavity germs are transmissible – so
everyone in the family should consider and use the X-treme
- You and your child should consider
using the Complete Mouthcare System. Younger children will

used and in which order. Don’t forget to clean toothbrushes
- Usually tooth damage is from drinks
that are consumed too frequently and between meals. Try to
limit drinks to meal times and give your teeth time between
meals to be mineralized by the minerals in natural saliva.
