Older Kids & Teens
3 Things to know:
1. A bright healthy smile is important for everyone.
New teeth have soft enamel, which looks dark in color,
especially if in direct comparison with baby teeth. Beware:
don’t use whitening or bleaching products at this time. It may
be tempting but long-term damage could be devastating to the
tooth and to your child’s health.
2. The best way to look after
new teeth is to strengthen them.
Make xylitol a lifestyle and protect your kid’s teeth after
every meal or snack with Zellies 100 percent xylitol mints, gum
or candies. Twice a day, brush teeth with a clean toothbrush and
a small amount of toothpaste [LINK: CMCS/ why Crest Cavity
Protection paste] ACT dilute fluoride rinse can help put
minerals into teeth and naturally strengthen them. Xylitol and
fluoride will work synergistically to provide more protection
than either could alone.
3. Your dentist may suggest
braces– but it’s important to get teeth and gums healthy before
starting any treatment that will make cleaning more difficult.

dissolving candies made with the finest european xylitol.

Dr. Ellie Tips
- Kids usually have plenty of healthy
alkaline saliva, so make sure they don’t waste this natural
protection. Keep snacks and sipping drinks to a minimum, and
preferably avoid acidic drinks like soda and juices.
- Sealants may not be the best way to
protect new teeth. Balancing mouth bacteria may give more
prolonged and more natural protection for new teeth, without
the dangers from sealants.
- Teach your children the importance
of protecting teeth from acidity, which foods help heal
teeth, and how cleaning with good toothpaste and mouth
rinses offer extra protection before sleeping at night and
also in the morning.
Tips for teens with bad teeth or cavities:
- Cavity germs are transmissible – so
everyone in the family should consider the X-treme xylitol
- Ensure your teen understands the
severity of a cavity and how the Complete Mouth Care System
may be able to reverse an early cavity – but only when used
twice daily and with a protective xylitol regimen.
- Control snacking and acidic or
sugary beverages. Usually tooth damage is from drinks that
are consumed too frequently and between meals. Try to limit
drinks to meal times and give teeth time between meals to be
mineralized by the minerals in natural saliva.
